The lessons for kids are designed to start from the very basics, with songs that use one string and one finger. They can then progress to add another finger and string at a time until they are comfortable with the guitar and can play simple songs with the correct tempo and accuracy.
Each song in the course work is laid out in such a way that the students progress can be tracked. The amount of time it takes to play a song the whole way through is recorded, along with mistakes. From here, a specific time target and accuracy target is set for the student to reach. This helps kids to see that they are making progress, even when it may feel slow at first.
The coursework has a clear structure. It is broken down into beginner and intermediate coursework. As a parent you will therefore always have a clear idea of how far along along the road your kid is. This clear structure in the coursework helps to reduce anxiety in young students, allowing them to see how far they have come as well as knowing which tasks lay ahead in each lesson.
Parents are welcome to sit in on lesson, although it is not necessary. It is important that parents participate actively in their kids practice schedule. A consistent practice schedule is the most important element for learning an instrument, and kids will need to be reminded to do their guitar homework – which will only take 10 – 20 minutes a day.
